Welcome to the August collection of my Photo a Day pictures. Chantelle, who writes the Fat Mum Slim blog and started the FMS Photo a day challenge, has decided that this month should be a month of about us as the people who take part in the group.  We did something a bit similar to this in January and I will do my best to provide new and interesting photos.

1st August – I Am…

Me lying on the floor, with a camera and three books spread next to my head. I am wearing a blue t-shirt that looks like it has the Superman logo, but actually the initials MFR

I am many things: a son, a brother, a boyfriend, a red head, an Integrated Myofascial Therapist, a Scaravelli Yoga Teacher, a Reiki Master, a photographer, a reader of many, many, many books, a work in progress…

But, most importantly, I am ME

2nd August – I love this colour…

A stream covered in green duckweed, runs between green trees and rushes. There are glimpses of a blue sky and grey railings in the background.

I love most colours, but ultimately the colour I need to be surrounded by is the green of nature… Here at my beloved Walthamstow Wetlands, with the green of the duckweek a thin layer over the Coppermill Stream…

3rd August – I walked here…

A dark corridor leads to a red glow of a doorway, there are people walking out of the doorway.

I was delighted to get tickets to see the World Premiere of Netflix’ The Sandman on the day of this prompt.  I forgot to stop and take a photo of the black carpet but this was the entrance to the cinema.

4th August – I like to…

Beth Porter sings into a microphone whilst also playing a cello

I like to listen to music, and love to see it performed live.  This is the wonderful Beth Porter (The Bookshop Band) singing as part of the Spellsongs group at Folk By The Oak Festival in July 2022.

5th August – I love this time of day…

I sit in bed reading a book, the corner of a poster hangs on the wall

I love anytime of day when I have the opportunity to sit down and read.  This most often happens just before I go to sleep, and always has been a part of my routine.

This photo was selected to be one of the Sensational Six for this prompt in the Facebook group, as well as one of the four for the Instagram group.

6th August – I love…

A view of a lake surrounded by trees under a bright blue sky. An electicity pylon stands on the skyline

I love many things, but I do really love nature, and being surrounded by it… so here’s another view of the Wetlands; a place I love to visit.

7th August – I made this…

A close up of a lego star wars X-wing toy.

I made this Lego X-Wing… yeah, I am a kid at heart.

8th August – I work here…

Me looking off camera, my hands typing on a keyboard. In the background is the treatment couch of the clinic.

I work in this room in the Clerkenwell clinic, and not always at the treatment couch, there is admin to do at the computer.

9th August – I held this…

black and white picture of a hand holding a red decorated ceramic heart dish. The heart is still coloured red

I held this gift from a friend.  But also I have had the opportunity to hold someone else’s heart literally in my hands.  They weren’t alive and had donated their body to science, but it was a profoundly moving moment in my work.

10th August – I wrote this…

Hand written page of a To do list, with Fritatta , Packing and Email all crossed out.

I had very little inspiration on this day, so this was an old To Do list where I had manged to do most of the tasks.

11th August – I saw…

Gwendoline Christie and Neil Gaiman talking in front of a group of photographers. Neil is pulling a surprised face.

I saw the beautiful Gwendoline Christie (she also played Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones) and Neil Gaiman, among many other stars at The Sandman Premiere… No I don’t know what was said to make Neil pull such a face.

12th August – I like to drink…

Me drinking straight from a bottle of Wheedon's Gin.

Why, yes… I do like to drink.

I couldn’t resist with this prompt, and I do like to drink Gin, but not like this.  I do drink responsibly.

13th August – I stood here…

An empty train platform next to the rails which have a slight golden glow due to the sunset.

I stood on this platform on my way back from work, lovely golden hour making the train tracks glow.  There were other people on the platform, I just managed to avoid photographing them.

14th August – I do this on Sundays…

A close up of a cooked frittata still in the frying pan, of which you can just see the handle.

I am very dull really, but on Sundays I prepare my lunches for the week, with the help of my wonderful SO.

15th August – I once…

Young me, wearing a red sweater and a black baseball cap. To one side stands a Royal Canadian Mountie, the other is a blue clad Alaskan State Trooper. The mountie is saying something and my face looks a bit embarassed.

I once went on holiday to the Alaska and visited Skagway.  On the day we went there was a celebratory parade that marked the rescue of the town by the Canadian mounted police.  Here is a photo of me from 28 years ago standing between the Chief of the Alaskan State Troopers (Blue uniform) and he counterpart from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.  No, I can’t remember what he was saying.

16th August – I never…

A dragonfly in flight, and all four wings visible, with reeds in the background.

I never tire of watching nature, and attempting to photograph it.  This is one of the best photographs I’ve taken of a dragonfly in flight.

17th August – I went to…

a bent wire sculpture of a screaming and aggresisve baboon. There is a stone wall in the background

🎶🎶🎶I went to the animal fair, the birds and the beasts were there.. 🎶🎶🎶The big baboon by the light of the moon was combing its auburn hair… 🎶🎶🎶 The monkey fell out of his bunk, slid down the elephant’s trunk, the elephant sneezed and fell on its knees and what became of the monkey… Monkey… Monkey… 🎶🎶🎶

Or rather I went to the Tower of London, where you can find this awesome scultpure of a baboon screaming from one roof at another baboon.

18th August – I read this…

Black doors with sculpted words on them, too small to read, with a black statue above it.

I read the Eucharist Doors at La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.  The doors have the words “Give us today our daily bread” sculpted on them in 50 languages. The main one being Catalan.

The black statue above is a representation of St George, the patron Saint of Barcelona.

19th August – I did this good thing…

Two blue tits sit on a bird feeder

I encourage and look after the wild birds by putting out seeds and water (particularly important this hot year) and so I get to see lovely birds like this pair of Blue Tits.

20th August – I love this view…

The Engine House at Walthamstow wetlands, with the copper mill stream in the foreground, and a blue sky

I love this view of the Engine House and the Coppermill Stream at the Walthamstow Wetlands, I think I’ve used another photo of it before, but I do adore it.

21st August – I don’t like to…

A dyson vacuum cleaner head, in black and white

I really don’t like doing the hoovering… it just gets dirty again.

22nd August – On Mondays I…

A pari of feet on tip toe, the edge of a blue yoga mat just visible

I am trying to be good and practice what I preach and do more yoga.  This is me balancing in downward facing dog (my ankles prevent me from getting my heels on the floor)

23rd August – I sat here…

Train seats and a crossed leg in black and white, green trees and blue sky with a pylon are in colour through the train window.

I sat here as I travelled through the English countryside.

24th August – I like to eat…

A close up of penne pasta, with green bits of cabbage.

I love eating pasta, especially when it’s covered in cheese sauce.  Yes, it was lovely.

25th August – I have to…

Me drinking deeply from a grey mug, which contained coffee

I have to have coffee first thing in the morning, you really don’t want to meet me if I haven’t had my first cup.

26th August – I wore this…

purple underwear lying on a tiled floor.

Yeah. Probably too much information, but the prompt did ask…

27th August – On weekends I…

A view of many people sitting on massage couches and standing looking at a blue screen.

I normally do my best to relax at the weekend, or do some bits around the house. But this weekend I was away on a course so this is what I was doing.  The course I was on was the Erik Daltaon Myoskeletal Approach and it was great fun.

28th August – I watched this…

Three images one above the other of an orange sunrise, with an island to the left and silhouette of trees on the right, The bottom image has a more circular sun visible.

I had a lovely view fom my hotel room of the Broad Meadow River estuary mouth at Malahide, near Dublin, and also Lambay Island.  I woke early enough to see the sunrise, and to watch it progress.

29th August – I can…

A can of white paint, with a wide paint brush resting on it, the lid has a smaller brush. The background has blue bird lines on it.

I can spread paint across the walls and ceiling.  I’m not perfect but it mostly goes where I want it to.

Amazingly this picture was chosen as one of the Fab Four.

30th August – I can’t…

A model pelvis sits on a yoga mat, we are looking from the rear at the sacrum.

I can’t seem to remember the movement mechanics of the sacrum with it’s nutation and counter nutation, it’s nodding and torque…

31st August – I believe…

A face made up of overlapping straight lines, criss corssing across the image.

I believe that we are complex people, made up of the threads of our lives.

This amazing piece of work was part of the Whitecross Street party in July 2022.

Bonus photo

A circular image of two faces, looking closely they are made up of overlapping lines of string

A complete view of the piece of art.

So that’s it for this month, I hope you enjoyed the photos. There were a couple of silly ones, and I hope you weren’t offended by them.  I was stunned to have two photographs chosen as notable, especially as one really wasn’t that great in my mind..

There will be a constant (some might think endless) stream of photos on my Instagram feed, so if you can’t wait until next month then follow me there. There will be another summary of my photos next month.

Thanks for reading this, my lovely interonauts,

Tim
