I can’t believe that we’ve already completed the June prompts: This year feels like it is flying by! I’m not certain if doing a daily challenge like this makes the days pass more slowly or faster!
Anyway, here are the photos I submitted for the FMS Photo a Day challenge in June 2018.
June 1st – Circle
A welcome sight: a circle of coffee at the bottom of a mug. I’m surprised I managed to take a half decent photo before I’d had any coffee today.

June 2nd – Snack
Oh, these chocolate brownies are a real temptation and I could eat way too many of them. The ones with peanut butter in the middle are even better.

I sat on this bench in the Studley Royal Water Gardens and looked at the ruins of Fountain’s Abbey, one of my favourite places.

June 4th – This is so me!
Such a tricky prompt! I asked my SO, and he wasn’t much help, but I eventually realised that a pile of shoes that have been taken off and left in the kitchen really is me. My SO then said that that was a good representation of me.

June 5th – Favourite
Favourite? Favourite what?! A very wide prompt, but this is my favourite photo of one of my favourite UK birds. This was taken at the Garlic Farm on the Isle of Wight and might have been the same bird as the one I used for last month’s Speed prompt.

June 6th – Where I work
This is the treatment room where I work at Clerkenwell Chiropractic Clinic, as those of you that have been for a treatment will know. I could have used one of the studios where I teach yoga too, or the room at Stanmore Chiropractic Clinic…

June 7th – To my left
This is in my home office, having had an unexpected office morning. The mess is to the right of me, and behind me, and in front of me…. There are book shelves virtually everywhere in my house, so that part is quite true.

Apparently they mate for life, but even if these aren’t a pair, they’re friends.

June 10th – Organise
Organise into numerical order. My SO and I like graphic novels, and we’ve been collecting this 90 volume collection of Judge Dredd stories. They have not been published in numerical order for some reason, and this photo shows the organising process we’re doing.
The left hand side have been read and are organised in numerical order, the right hand side have not been read and are organised in publication order. The keen-eyed will spot number 38 (&77) which are actually ones that my SO has read, but I haven’t. Once I’ve read them, then they will go into numerical order.

June 11th – Something awesome
The ceiling (and the walls) of the Durbar Room of Osborne House, Isle of Wight, is truly awesome. Completely over the top, but awesome.
Oh, Durbar is, apparently, the Hindi for Council, and this was a Queen Victoria’s Council room, when she became obsessed with all things Indian.

June 12th – Play time
Well, the play was about to begin…. “As you like it” at the Globe Theatre, and I loved it.
I don’t have a small child or a pet to get to pose for me for prompts like this, and I feel surreptitiously photographing other people small ones (known as a Stalker shot) would be very dubious… So this was my take on the prompt.

June 13th – A sign
Men at work, but laying down on the job…
This was spotted on the way home from Stanmore Chiropractic Clinic, and I initially walked past it and went back to photograph it.

June 14th – I never…
I never drink black teas… I really can’t stand the taste of it. I much prefer a coffee. Does that make me un-English? Who cares…
I do however drink herbal teas (lemon and ginger being a favourite) and green tea with lemon isn’t too bad (as long as the lemon is quite strong).

June 15th – Water
This the Solent, that separates the Isle of Wight from the mainland. I don’t know what the Crested Grebe was doing there but he seemed happy. In the background are the sail of a yacht, and the thing that looks like a ferry is actually one of the Solent Forts.

June 16th – Dinner
Dinner was going to be something from inside the fridge…
…due to a cheeky G&T, we ended up having a dirty kebab and chips delivered from a local Fish & Chip shop.

June 17th – Outside
Outside, looking in…
This a pair of statues (one inside, one outside) called ‘Reflection’ by the artist Anthony Gormley. It can be found on the North side of Euston Road in the Regent’s Place buildings.

June 19th – The weather today
The weather that day was mostly grey, with patches of blue and the occassional spot of sunshine. Quite warm though.

This cake was the reward, from our tutors, to the Yoga Teacher Trainees on completing our YTT course.

Contrails are faraway, and criss-crossing the sky above Wembley show that people are travelling to distance places.

June 22nd – Collection
This is a selection of my collection of badges (Pins to some people) that I amassed as a youngster. These are mostly ones produced by the Hertfordshire Library Service in the late 1970s and early 1980s. I like to think that they helped foster my love of puns.
One of the Blue Peter badges is actually mine (I wrote them a letter about my collection of badges, Doctor Who Novelisations, Blue Peter Annuals, and 5 more collections that now escape me), the other one I found in a Jumble Sale.

June 23rd – Pink
My new orchid, that will hopefully grow in my garden. It’s a Hyacinth Orchid (Bletilla Striata) and it comes from China. Very exciting, and frilly.

June 24th – Black & White
The gate at the British Museum has worn where it is used to open and close it, revealing an interesting black and white pattern.
It was a tough decision to make between converting a photo into black and white (which I do fairly often) versus finding something that actually is black and white (which is what I went for).

June 25th – Path
The path to one of the Bird Hides at the Newtown Nature Reserve on the Isle of White. Always a lovely place to go.

June 26th – Brave
As someone who hates heights, going to the edge of a large cliff to see the viewpoint and take the “classic” photos of the Needles was very brave.

This was taken at the British Museum’s Rodin exhibition, to show the casting process, but I just loved this model.

June 28th – What I’m doing right now
“Well, if you really want to know….”
This was a tongue-in-cheek take on the prompt, but based a bit on fact (it was an early start for me, and I try to post my photos first thing). Most people on the FB group found it very funny, one or two less impressed. I will say that I think it has been the photo that has received the most reactions (over 145 at last count) and I’m glad that it brightened many people’s days.

A Hart’s Tongue fern growing in the crack at the bottom of a wall… Somewhere they would never survive if you’d planted it on purpose, but shows how great nature can be…

So that’s it for this month, I hope you enjoyed the photos. At the end of the month I realised that I have been doing this every day for 18 months now (since 1st January 2017) which is quite an achievement. That’s actually 545 photos submitted.
I was very pleasantly surprised that the Collection photo, which was the one of the badges on the 22nd, was chosen to be one of the Fab Four for that day. I was actually quite amazed as it was not a massively posed photo, but obviously touched on something for the person making the choice. I was hoping my cheeky photo on the 28th would have been chosen, but it’s not the best photo in all honesty.
There will be a constant (some might think endless) stream of photos on my Instagram feed, so if you can’t wait until next month then follow me there. There will be another summary of my photos next month.
